What is Mindset, and Why Does it Matter?
What’s Mindset?
Mindset is the attitude by which you approach life. You are inclined to act by beliefs that comprise your mindset, and your habits are outward expressions. It’s the foundation of everything you do and it impacts both success and failure. A fixed mindset is founded on the belief that you are what you are and that’s all you have to work with. On the other hand, a growth mindset involves striving for more and living up to your potential. It is grounded in possibility. Which do you think is more likely to lead you on a path of success and happiness?
Growth Mindset
When you operate by a growth mindset, its strength will withstand any amount of weight placed upon it. It will keep you going even when threatening circumstances present themselves. Instead of seeing them as stumbling blocks, if you have a growth mindset, you will see the same circumstances as challenges and you will strive to move past them. A fixed or weak mindset, just as a weak foundation, will crumble when that same pressure is applied. If you’re going to build something of value that will survive the test of time, make sure the foundation upon which you build it is a mile deep.
Your Foundation
Your mindset will become the platform for everything you build. This will be the foundation that not only gives you the strength to withstand failure and loss but also to learn to welcome both because of the knowledge that accompanies them. It will provide you with the confidence to push forward when onlookers doubt you. This will be that which gives purpose and direction to everything you do. As an entrepreneur, your mind plays a critical role in how you deal with the challenges that are sure to come your way. It’s especially important as we move through a worsening of the pandemic. The effects COVID is having on the ways we do business, and even whether we emerge with a business at all, will be determined by mindset first and secondly the actions we take to move forward.
Never Fear Failure
In my next post, I’ll discuss the importance of surrounding yourself with the right people. Until then, keep this in mind. Never fear failure. Failure is a powerful teacher. Fear regret.
Author and businessman, Tony Velasco, teaches the principles by which he built a multimillion-dollar business enterprise in his 20s. He lives in Valencia, CA with his wife, Allison. Tony believes that the prospect of losing is a part of growth, and greater than failure we should fear regret, in all things, at all costs.
His soon-to-be-released book, F**K Regret offers a step-by-step description of how the author executes every aspect of his daily life, how he was able to sustain the shutdown of gyms and other businesses during the COVID-19 pandemic, and how he is rebuilding.
